MLK Day of Service 2018

Service Leadership Scholars

Bonner Leaders and Scholars in Service are competitive scholarship programs that offer selected students with exceptional records of leadership, community service and/or social justice work an opportunity to continue their commitment to the common good. Read about both of these opportunities below.

Bonner Leaders Program

The Bonner Leaders program is a competitive scholarship that offers selected students with exceptional records of leadership, community service and/or social justice work an opportunity to continue their commitment to the common good. This award is on top of your merit award.

The mission of the Bonner Leaders Program is to transform the lives of students and members, the life of their campuses, their local communities, and the world through service and leadership. Bonner Leaders receive an annual Ursinus Bonner Leader Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. While attending Ursinus, Bonner Leaders commit to serve an average of eight to ten hours per week of service working in the community with local non-profits.

In addition to community outreach, Bonner Leaders spend about two hours a week together as a group, reflecting on experiences and participating in training sessions to develop personal and leadership skills. Additionally, the program is designed to enhance the students’ academic experiences by fostering real-world, community connections.

Scholars in Service

Scholars in Service will be awarded $2,500/year. Scholars in Service is a competitive scholarship program that offers selected students with exceptional records of leadership, community service and/or social justice work an opportunity to continue their commitment to the common good. This award is on top of your merit award.

Scholars in Service at Ursinus College fosters an atmosphere of service and leadership, in which students learn and grow through a combination of direct service, training, reflection, and leadership development.

Service is supplemented by on-campus bi-weekly meetings and one-on-one advising with the Assistant Director of UCARE to round out not only service learning, but liberal education at its very core.
