Prospective Study Abroad Students

Who, when, for how long, what and where?

Ursinus students may apply to study abroad as early as the summer following the first year and as late as the penultimate semester. Students may be approved to study up to two semester and on multiple summer or winter break programs abroad. No matter what your interests are, we can help you find a program to fit your needs. We start with a short survey to understand your background, interests, and goals. Then we offer you a range of opportunities that match your needs. These options may be in different countries or regions, and they often include internships or service learning. You can take courses abroad for credit towards your major, minor, core requirements and/or elective credits. You can study abroad to improve your proficiency in a foreign language or to pursue advanced studies in your field in English. Some programs in non English-speaking countries allow students to take a course in the target language while taking other courses in English. Other programs are designed to immerse the student in the target language and local culture through intensive language study, family homestays, internships or service learning and/or classes with local students. We help you choose the program that is a good match for YOU.

Why study abroad?

Ursinus students study abroad to gain an international perspective on their academic majors, liberal arts education and personal interests. Study abroad allows you to take what you learn in the classroom out into the real world and bring it back again. Students can enjoy unique opportunities to engage actively with the local community by participating in family home stays, internships in local businesses and organizations, community service projects, and research. Students who study abroad gain a deeper understanding of their own culture while learning about another firsthand. Those who make an effort to engage fully hone lifelong skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaborative learning, tolerance for ambiguity and leadership. Study abroad is an opportunity for academic as well as personal growth.
