What is an Extern?

An extern is an Ursinus student who spends three to five days at the workplace of an alum or friend of the College to gain practical exposure to a potential career field.

Students of all majors and class years participate in Externships. This is a career exploration activity so many Externs do not have solidly formed ideas about careers. Students are assigned to externships based on their preferences and interests. Externs understand the value of “learning by doing.”

Who is an Extern Sponsor?

Extern sponsors are generally alumni of Ursinus, Current or Past parents of Ursinus students, and friends of the College who are interested in supporting current students.
