First Year Advising

As a first-year student at Ursinus, you will enter as an undeclared major. You will be assigned a First-Year Adviser until you declare your major in spring of your first year. Faculty members from all disciplines serve as First-Year Advisers.

Overview of Meetings with Advisers

Bear Beginnings: New Student Days

  • Meet one-on-one with your adviser
  • Talk with your adviser about your academic goals
  • Register for classes for the Fall semester
  • Ask Questions!

Fall Semester

  • Meet with your adviser and advising cohort weekly. This meeting helps you make connections with fellow first-year students, eases the transition to college, and helps you learn more about what it’s like to be an Ursinus student.
  • During the first weekly meeting, you will discuss expectations and goals for the semester
  • After the fall semester, you are encouraged to meet with your adviser on an “as needed” basis.

What to expect from your First-Year Adviser

  • Advisers are prepared to help you deal with personal and academic issues and the transition to life at Ursinus
  • Advisers are there to answer questions and point you in the right direction by connecting you to appropriate campus resources
  • Advisers can assist you with dropping or adding classes, understanding graduation requirements, and declaring your major.
