Overview
This position is responsible for interior and exterior painting of all campus buildings at Ursinus College. Employees of Ursinus College must possess excellent customer service skills, interpersonal skills and have an overall concern for the general welfare of the college and community and provide the best possible environment for education and student living.
Responsibilities
Interior and Exterior Painting Responsibilities:
- Inspect surfaces and determine appropriate primers, paints, finishes, and tools for application.
- Monitor material inventory and cost-effectively buy painting materials (e.g., paint, brushes, drop cloths).
- Cover furniture, fixtures, and exposed surfaces for protection before starting projects.
- Prepare walls, cabinets, siding, fences, and other surfaces for painting projects (e.g., scraping, sandpapering, paint removal).
- Repair cracks, dents, holes, and other minor surface damage with putty or plaster before painting.
- Paint surfaces and apply varnish, sealant, and stain as needed.
- Load and unload tools and equipment from work vehicles.
- Maintain a clean, tidy work area on job sites.
- Establish work priorities, including completing work orders and progress reports.
Departmental Responsibilities:
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment, including securing the work area and posting proper notices for other users of the space.
- Snow removal as required.
- Special events support as needed.
Requirements and Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a residential or commercial painter.
- Able to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
- Attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety.
- Proficiency with painting tools and equipment.
- Skilled in the safe operation of motor vehicles.
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal, handwritten, electronic) with faculty and staff, suppliers, customers and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to efficiently complete task in both independent and teamwork settings.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work hours outside of normal workweek, including weekends, evenings and on-call emergencies as needed.
