Epiphany Summers
Class of 2014 | Philadelphia, Pa
I studied abroad in London, United Kingdom during the spring semester of 2013 with the CAPA International Education Program. During this semester abroad I was a student council member of CAPA and I had an internship at a non-profit organization, called the Baytree Centre, located in Brixton, that helped disadvantaged women and girls of the urban community.

My Experience
Being an African American woman from a lower class community in Philadelphia, what was most valuable about this experience was simply going abroad. I never thought I would ever have the opportunity to go out of the country but Ursinus helped me to make what I thought was impossible possible!
The Coolest Part of the Experience
The coolest part about my experience abroad for a semester was traveling. I was able to travel to different parts of the UK such as Nottingham and Bath. In addition to traveling within the UK I traveling to different parts of Europe such as Barcelona, Rome, Amsterdam, Paris, Belgium, Toulon, Sicily, and even more! It was great to be able to see so many cultures first hand in one semester!
Who I Met that Made a Difference
My sociology professor while I was abroad made a huge impact on me and I still communicate with him today. He taught me so much about the urban landscape of London and all that was “sweet” and “not so sweet” about London. Through his knowledge and advice I was able to have a realistic grasp on the realities of London. He encouraged me to do research in this area and he believed in me more than anyone else did that semester. I will always remember him.
