Laura Santori
Class of 2021
My Story
This summer, Laura was given the incredible opportunity to return to the pharmaceutical company Merck & Co., Inc. for an internship within the Project Data Management Services group. Last year, Laura interned for Merck’s Global Clinical Trial Operations group. “I had such a great experience last summer, I knew I wanted to return again this year, even if it had to happen virtually,” she says. Laura’s main project this summer involved enhancing platforms used to communicate by global trial teams and learning more about the drug development process from a data management perspective.
Academic Connection
While not working directly in a lab, Laura still utilized the organizational and technical skills she gained from her lab courses throughout her time at Ursinus. Knowledge of neuroscience, biology, chemistry, and psychology provided her with a strong background and confidence when learning about the drug discovery and development process.
Strengths
“I think that even in pharmaceuticals, there is a place for creativity,” Laura says, “Being a Studio Art major, I am always thinking of ways to translate scientific information in an easily understandable and visually appealing format.” Laura was able to utilize her creative skills in additional side projects that required her to redesign visual aids used for clinical trial sites to gather information from patients during a visit.
Reflection
Going forward, Laura is interested in pursuing a career within the pharmaceutical industry. Her two internships at Merck have taught her how to communicate with teams globally, how to ask questions and find mentorship, how to master public speaking and interviewing skills, and most importantly, how to look at her future with excitement and confidence.
Fun Fact
Laura has a cat named Prince Pippin!
