Overview

The assistant director develops and executes digital engagement plans that drive annual giving and alumni engagement at Ursinus College.

Reporting to the director of the Ursinus Fund, the assistant director enhances the digital infrastructure through which alumni and other key constituencies engage with the College on an annual basis as donors, as volunteers, through events, and through meaningful communications. This position interfaces with and provides excellent customer service for alumni and other constituents who respond to digital outreach and engage with Advancement through digital channels.

Responsibilities

Planning & Timeline Management

  • Develop and execute data-driven digital engagement plans that support alumni giving and engagement objectives.
  • Meet with team members to understand annual strategies and associated digital engagement objectives for:
  • Signature alumni engagement events (Homecoming, Hall of Fame, Alumni Awards, Bear2Bear)
  • Ursinus Fund solicitations (Fall appeal, calendar year end appeal, spring appeal, fiscal year end appeal)
  • Social- and event-based fundraising initiatives (including Bears Athletics Club, #Giving2UCday, Bear2Bear auction)
  • Outline digital deliverables and associated timelines for completion / distribution of emails, text messages, webpages and platforms, social posts, etc.
  • Identify target audiences and develop associated digital segmentation strategies

 

Platform Management & Content Creation

  • Facilitate (in tandem with Marketing & Communications) the creation of digital assets (social fundraising campaign sites, emails, social posts, text messaging, web copy, forms, etc.) that drive recipients to action.
  • Facilitate the content review, approval, and scheduling process, adhering to departmental communications standards, timelines and protocols.
  • Monitor, manage, and create digital content for Alumni digital and social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram), as well as Ursinus Fund and Alumni webpages.
  • Execute digital recruitment strategies for the alumni referral program, working with student engagement officers to code and steward participants.

 

Analysis

  • Analyze and report on digital engagement results, providing insights and recommendations for continual improvement.
  • Identify trends, habits, and characteristics that can secure new, upgraded, and repeat participation in giving, event attendance, and volunteerism through digital outreach and marketing.
  • Work closely with Advancement Operations to capture and report on alumni engagement through the Alumni Engagement Index.
  • Encourage campus partners to track alumni engagement using digital forms
  • Ensure that alumni engagement is coded properly (in tandem with Student Engagement Officers)
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen and refine the index, and to improve processes that support the engagement process (such as the volunteer menu)

 

Process Oversight & Implementation

  • Provide excellent customer service for in-bound digital inquiries and requests:
  • From alumni and external audiences through in-bound email or social media communications
  • From campus partners, submitting requests for ad-hoc event registration pages, communications, volunteer menu additions, and/or fundraising requests.
  • From campus partners requesting gifts for alumni visitors (work with student engagement officers to prepare thank you notes and to secure/wrap/deliver cards and small gifts as appropriate)

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding customer service skill and ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with both external and internal constituents
  • Familiarity with email and social media marketing and digital fundraising technology and strategies
  • Ability to coordinate, manage and execute multi-channel digital fundraising campaigns
  • Some experience with web content development and web analytics is encouraged
  • A proven ability to self-motivate and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of fundraising process, information systems, and development management databases
  • Excellent computer skills, including using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, produce quality work, and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and highest commitment to accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to incorporate both quantitative and qualitative information and metrics into decision making
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in handling of confidential information
  • Independent initiative as well an ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

 

Work Environment:

  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Ability to sit for long periods at personal computer performing related functions

Departmental Accountabilities:

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues and team members in the Advancement Office and throughout the college. Participates in Advancement Office meetings and other key college staff meetings
  • Possesses knowledge and experience with computer programs that support the Advancement Department including Microsoft Office programs and Raiser’s Edge.
