OVERVIEW

Over the past 2 semesters, I’ve worked with Dr. Joel Bish and several others students in his research lab. Our study focused on the short to long term effects of concussions on executive functioning and impulse control tasks. I was able to administer several neuropsychological assessment batteries such the RBANS and DKEFS, and I was able to use an EEG machine to monitor brain activity. I will be continuing research in Dr. Bish’s lab and I intend to present at local neuroscience conferences in the fall.

WHAT WAS VALUABLE ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

I was able to have a hands-on experience with learning how to administer neuropsychological assessment batteries and I was able to test using the EEG machine. I was also able to score the tests as well for future statistical calculation.

THE COOLEST PART OF THE EXPERIENCE

The coolest part of the experience was being able to help to score data for the statistical analysis and present our findings at CoSA to the faculty and students.

WHO I MET THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE

This year, I met Dr. Bish and he has provided much guidance for me over the course of my junior year. I take several of his classes in addition to my involvement in his research lab. I regularly go to his office to ask questions or as for his opinion on future classes to take at Ursinus.
