My Experience
My Internship
In the summer of 2017, I participated in the Bard Globalization and International Affairs Program in New York City. The program gave me the opportunity to take two classes while interning somewhere in the city. The two classes I took were in counter insurgency and cities acting in the global world. My internship took place at a political and global business consulting firm called Charney Research, where I analyzed quantitative and qualitative data from a project contracted by USAID in Sri Lanka about women in politics. After my analysis I was able to give my recommendations to my boss who passed a final report on to USAID.
Most Valuable Aspect of my Internship
The most valuable piece of my internship was the fact that I was given the opportunity to get real world hands on experience in the field that I hope to pursue a career in. Because Charney Research is a small company, I got to see real data and I was able to give my own opinions that eventually were passed on to be implemented abroad.
Most Challenging About my Experience
While it was rewarding to see real data, it was challenging to work through. Our connections in Sri Lanka had conducted 25 in depth qualitative interviews and about 160 quantitative surveys. Sorting through these interviews and numbers was a long grueling task. That being said, we had to meet a deadline and therefore, my hours had to be flexible.
