Be the Change Day of Service 2023
Our newest Ursinus Bears continued a longstanding tradition of first year students teaming up with upperclassmen Bonner Leaders, Scholars in Service, & UCARE Fellows to volunteer with non-profits/community organizations dedicated to creating positive change around the Ursinus community & beyond.
This year, we had 10 community partners in focus areas such as the environment & food access, equine therapy, access to music lessons, inclusive volunteerism, and elderly companionship. The Collegeville Mayor, Dr. Wright-Riggins, started the day with an introduction to Collegeville and the surrounding community. Then students met with their volunteer groups for the day to get to know one another and head out to their project!
Many first-year students find this day to be a great way to build community with their peers over a shared service project. It also provides an opportunity for students to live their passions with local community groups of shared values. Many students tend to continue volunteering throughout their Ursinus journeys since they learn how they can get involved right from Day 1!
We’d like to send a huge thank you to all of the students, staff, Mayor Ace, and nonprofits that participated!
