Holly Hubbs: Performing and Publishing in 2024
On January 12, 2024, William F. Heefner Chair and Professor of Music Holly Hubbs performed at the International Saxophone Symposium with her professional quartet. The Junction Saxophone Quartet, in which Hubbs plays tenor saxophone, gave a recital of “Music From Around the World,” featuring music by composers Guillermo Lago, Antonin Dvorak, and Jose Olivier Riojas. The International Saxophone Symposium is an annual conference hosted by the United States Navy Band, every January since 1978.
Hubbs, whose creative work combines performance and historical research, also has a book chapter forthcoming in Contemporary Perspectives on the Legacy of Elise Hall, to be released March 2024 by University of Leuven Press. This edited volume, to which Hubbs contributed a chapter about 1920’s saxophonist Kathryne E. Thompson, re-evaluates myriad ways in which pioneering saxophonist Elise Hall influenced the saxophone’s legacy in the United States.
Hubbs will present music by Thompson as part of a faculty recital with collaborative Belgian saxophonist Andrea van Acker and pianist Kristofer Sanchack on Ursinus College’s campus on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 4pm.
