Gundolf Graml, an academic innovator who leads one of the nation’s foremost liberal arts curricula, will become Ursinus College’s provost and vice president for academic affairs. He begins February 1, 2024.

Graml is currently associate vice president for academic affairs and dean for curriculum and strategic initiatives at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, where he is also a professor of German. He previously served as the college’s assistant dean for global learning.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Gundolf to Ursinus College. His sharp insights and deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by liberal arts institutions like ours will be invaluable. I’m looking forward to working with him to continue cultivating the lifelong success of every student and to enrich their lives through an innovative undergraduate experience that celebrates creativity and open inquiry,” Ursinus President Robyn Hannigan said.

At Agnes Scott, which for six consecutive years has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as the most innovative liberal arts college in the nation, Graml leads the SUMMIT global learning, inclusive leadership, and digital literacy program, a general education curriculum that integrates the academic and experiential components of liberal arts learning. As Ursinus provost, Graml will helm Ursinus’s Quest core curriculum, nationally recognized for its open inquiry-based approach to liberal education.

Graml also served as senior international officer for Agnes Scott College and oversaw its prestigious global fellowships program. Hannigan noted that Graml’s views on liberal education, shared governance, and inclusion are closely aligned with those of Ursinus.
