How Usman Baqai ’17 continues to use his double major in Biology and Applied Ethics

Usman Baqai graduated from Ursinus in 2017 with majors in both Biology and Applied Ethics. While here, he was a fellow of the Parlee Center for Science and the Common Good and carried out independent research. Following graduation he completed an internship at the Initiative on Islam and Medicine, a research institute focused on improving health of American Muslims and helping practitioners provide ethical service to their patients.

Usman is now in his fifth year pursuing an MD/PhD at Thomas Jefferson University. He has published many research articles based on his work at both Ursinus and Jefferson, including one focused on “The future of targeted kinase inhibitors in melanoma.”

He is a board member for the ICNA Relief Social Health and Medical Service Clinic in Philadelphia, PA, a non-profit providing medical and social services to the underserved.
