Lightning Lecture: Let There Be Light

Ryan Walvoord uses the power of organic chemistry to build fluorophores, a specific class of chemical compound that re-emits light.

Walvoord, an assistant professor of chemistry and the 2020 winner of the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award, recently shared details about his research and what it’s like in his lab.

Regarding his research. he says, “On a broader level, understanding how molecular structure impacts brightness is exciting because it translates to so many areas of science. Contributing in these fields broadly relevant to humanity is rewarding.”
