Kayla Cayemitte ’23, Biology major, interned with the nonprofit, Common Tides. Common Tides is based in the US Virgin Islands. Kayla tells us, “I developed a marine science curriculum throughout 6 weeks with the help of my supervisor. The curriculum focused on animals that live in the ocean, ocean stewardship and equipment needed to snorkel and scuba dive. Over 4 days, I taught an age range from 3-13 in different groups and got back amazing results!"
Neva McGowan ’22, History major, interned in North Dakota creating a digital historical archive for the Nokota Horse Conservancy. Neva tell us, “My time in North Dakota was AMAZING. I never imagined that my History major could have taken me to a wild herd of horses in North Dakota. I was able to gain experience as a historian while participating in once in a lifetime opportunities!”
Holly Chambers ’23, Health and Exercise Physiology major, interned with
The Physical Therapy and Wellness Institute, where I familiarize myself with physical therapy exercises as they target certain conditions such as joint replacements, injuries, generalized pain, balance difficulty, and more! I love connecting with multiple patients and learning about their journeys toward recovery. I have also been able to learn from the physical therapists and support staff about their experiences in the field of PT!
Aaron Edwards ’22, Environmental Studies major, worked as a summer intern with a virtual campaign called Change the Chamber, who seeks to make the Chamber of Commerce and corporations associated with the Chamber more sustainable. We also meet with the senators of other states to discuss about Climate Change and how we can combat it. My job is to research companies lobbying and donating to the Chamber of Commerce.
Maia Peele ’23, Anthropology and Sociology major, interned with the Clay Studio for resident artist Adebunmi Gbadeo. Adebunmi is a visual artist who creates sculptures, paintings, prints, and paper using human hair sourced from people of the African diaspora. During the summer I was able to assist her in research in preparation for her art gallery and a trip to True Blue Cemetery in South Carolina. While digging soil at True blue I was able to learn ethical excavation practices. The cemetery contains burials of enslaved African Americans dated back to the early 1800s
Jessica Rogers ’23, Biology and Neuroscience double major, interned with Skippack Pharmacy, where she gets to see and experience how an independent pharmacy operates, especially during a global pandemic! She tells us “It is amazing to see how Dr. Mak and the COVID task force go above and beyond to help our community during this time of need. It is incredibly rewarding to work alongside the awesome people I met here and it is an experience that I will certainly never forget. I learn something new every day at this job and I can’t wait to continue!”
Kelsey Gavin ’22, Art and Art History major, interned with the Berman Museum of Art. Gavin tells us, “My summer internship involved a hands on experience working in the museum’s private collections, including an acquisition of a range of work by Françoise Gilot. This internship also involved the installation of three separate exhibitions, currently on view at the museum!”
Britney Dyszel 22, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major, interned with The Clinic a nonprofit organization that gives free medical care to the uninsured. Britney tells us “I volunteered in the lab, which included running bloodwork, calling prescriptions to pharmacies, and counting medications to make dose packs for patients. I loved this internship so much that I’m continuing to volunteer here when it ends!”
Diana Winner '23, Anthropology and Sociology major, spent the summer interning at the Speaker’s House in Historic Trappe, PA. She tells us, “It was a mixture of hands-on archeological field work and lab work. On weekends I would help at the excavation site which is believed to be an icehouse or spring house dating back to the late 1700s. I’d spend the rest of the week in the lab cleaning and processing artifacts. It was an incredible experience to find pieces of history.”
Abigail Coachi ’22, Biology major, interned at a medical practice called Ophthalmology Physicians & Surgeons, PC. My role was as an Ophthalmic Technician. Ophthalmology Physicians & Surgeons, PC is known for treating glaucoma. Glaucoma is an eye disease that triggers increased internal pressure in the eye, which causes destruction to the optic nerve. Due to the specialty of this practice, this summer I got to witness some cool cases!
Amber Kim ’22, Biology Major, interned at Kobawoo Dental Center in North Wales, PA. Amber tells us, “Most of our patients’ first language is Korean, so I had to speak mainly in Korean at the office. At my internship, I was able to assist in many dental procedures. I took this photo after assisting in an implant surgery, which is one of the extensive procedures I took part in all summer”.
Gwendylan Gagne ’22, Biology major, interned as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens. This internship gave Gwen the resources to look into issues she is passionate about, such as accessibility to drugs, and in particular, neuro-pharmaceuticals.
Liam Gieb ’22, Media and Communication Studies major, interned with the Make-A Wish Foundation. Liam tells us, “Interning with Make-A-Wish has not only showed me working experience but it has also showed me how to work with and help others.”
Dana Roby ’22, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Public Health double major, interned with the Disaster Action Team (DAT) of the American Red Cross: National Capital and Greater Chesapeake Region. My projects included responding to disasters, helping to enhance the trainee program by adding mentors and being on the administrative team of the Central MD launch of the new dispatch and scheduling system RC Respond
Zosia Balcerek ’22, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major, interned with the Animal Medical Center as a Veterinary Assistant. This internship helped Zosia prepare for her dream career. She plans to attend Veterinary school after graduating from Ursinus.
Michael Green ’23, an Applied Economics major, interned at the Commonwealth Foundation. Michael tells us, “I spent my summer steps from Pennsylvania’s capital learning how ideas become policy.”
Chelsea Stitt ’22, a Health & Exercise Physiology and Dance double major interned with Novacare Rehabilitation in Wyomissing, PA. She tells us, “I was trained as a tech which meant I could help patients through their exercises, do some office work, and sit in on patient evaluations. I was able to meet and help a lot of great people and had a ton of fun doing so!”
Giannina Flamiano ’22, a Computer Science major, had a remote internship with Comcast as a Software Developer for the AD Delivery team. Giannina tells us, “I learned a lot about Agile methodology and I was able to get a glimpse of what it is like to code professionally. During my time at Comcast, I added a column resizing feature to the app, fixed minor bugs, converted files to different programming languages, and more! I am very thankful for this opportunity because I got to work with people who prioritized my personal and professional growth, and they ensured that I walked away from the internship prepared for full-time roles in the near future.”
Miranda Staley ’22, a double major in Politics and International Relations, interned with Platinum Choice Healthcare in Florida. She tells us, “I worked as a Medicare sales representative. I enjoyed being able to help individuals gain better medical benefits and better their living situation.”
Sydney Bowman ’22, a Biology major, interned with CVS Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician. Sydney tells us, “this experience will allow me to experience the medical field for the first time. The internship will allow me to fine-tune my career path and guide my experience level to that of someone who is prepared for graduate school.”
Luke Verga ’22, Health & Exercise Physiology major, interned with the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad. Luke tells us, “While on the ambulance, I helped to assist paramedics through answering 9-1-1 medical and trauma calls by providing emergency and first-aid care for patients. Along with my partners, I helped to provide hospital transportation for various emergency patient scenarios and collected vital signs for patients while en route to the given hospital. Additionally, this summer I enrolled in and passed an emergency training services (EMS) course. I am currently in the process of becoming a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT).
