About

In an effort to engage faculty, staff and students in ways that encourage meaningful relationship-building across the different constituencies, each year the college announces a call for proposals for the Inclusive Community Fellowship.

This is a year-long fellowship and the successful proposal will focus on a theme, and include curricular and pedagogical elements that are framed within the context of the four Open Questions. Faculty from all academic disciplines—the arts, sciences, humanities and social sciences—are eligible to submit a proposal. Priority will be given to proposals that connect existing programs or offices.

The successful fellow will receive a course release and up to $4,000 to develop a project. All proposals must have the support of the department chair. The chair will need to send a brief email to the dean of the college commenting on staffing implications in the event of a course reduction for the fellow. Support will be contingent on the ability of the department to accommodate a course reduction.

Successful proposals address the following:

1. A clear and focused theme that includes curricular and pedagogical elements that are framed in the context of the four open questions. This theme might consider a range of perspectives and identities such as race, socioeconomic status, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, and disability.
2. Intentional engagement with the work of the Institute for Inclusion and Equity (IIE) and/or the Teaching and Learning Institute (TLI), the Institute for Student Success, and other entities that further the work of diversity and inclusion on campus.
3. Opportunities for involving staff members in the project.
4. Appeal and accessibility of proposed workshops, events, etc., to the entire campus community.
5. How the opportunity will be personally and professionally meaningful for you. If appropriate, frame your answer within the framework of the four open questions.

Submitting Your Proposal

Applications are now open for the 2023-2024 academic year. Deadline for submissions is October 16, 2023. 

Proposals are reviewed by the division of inclusion and community engagement and the dean’s office with final decisions made jointly by the vice president of inclusion and community engagement, the dean of the college and the director of the institute for inclusion and equity.

The current faculty fellows will be asked to share the results of their project at an on-campus event in the spring.
