Ixchel Mendez ’23, Title: “Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and its Effects on Cell Progenitors”. How does fetal alcohol spectrum disorder affect the cell progenitors that are critical to proper thalamocortical axon guidance? Fetal Alcohol spectrum disorder, also known as FASD, is a range of effects found in children whose mothers drank alcohol during their pregnancy. During the semester we will be focusing on how moderate drinking levels can affect cell progenitors for the corridor cells that guide thalamocortical axons. Ixchel worked on this research with Dr. Carlita Favero and her FUTURE mentor Deborah Diaz. Faculty Mentor: Dr. Carlita Favero
